Printlink's Cheyne Lesa named PrintNZ Apprentice of the Year
Monday, 4 May 2015
Printlink bindery tradesman Cheyne Lesa was named PrintNZ Apprentice of the Year at the Pride in Print Awards held at Wellington's TSB Arena on 1 May 2015.
The announcement triggered a thunderous applause from his colleagues and fellow industry workers at Friday's annual event, where the Apprentice of the Year Award is always a highlight. Printlink, all of its staff and the entire Blue Star Print Group are delighted for Cheyne, and will very much share in his success.
In his acceptance speech, Cheyne acknowledged his fellow finalists and thanked his family, girlfriend, Printlink trainers and company management. "They have taught me so much and been so supportive, it made the whole journey so much easier for me -- I have enjoyed the whole process."
Cheyne's success, against strong competition from an extremely-high calibre of Finalists, can be put down to his passion, hard work and the training he's received at Printlink. Tom Jennings, one of the Printlink trainers, is thrilled with Cheyne's triumph. "Cheyne is one of those special guys -- he is lovely, always willing to do what he is asked and never moans. He attracts people, he is a leader and has a lovely family." "That said, a guy still has to have the ability to win at this level ... it's the ability and mana that he has."
Cheyne has been in the print industry for 11 years, following in family footsteps when he joined Printlink, where he began his apprenticeship five years ago. His achievement reflects positively on the training systems that Printlink has in place, and highlights the important role that training programmes have in the print industry.
The Finalists and overall Award Winner are selected by PrintNZ, training partner Competenz and sponsor BJ Ball Papers.
